World Bank Positively Evaluated Corridor 10 Works

published on Friday, 29th July 2011.

Today Mrs. Jane Armitage, World Bank Director and Regional Coordinator for Southeast Europe has positively evaluated the realization of construction works of the Dimitrovgrad by-pass at the eastern route of the Corridor 10 through Serbia. Director Armitage, who visited the works on the Corridor with her associates, pointed out that “great advancement may be seen“ since 2010 when the works on the by-pass construction had begun.

"We know that people in Serbia are impatient regarding the construction of this important road and that they wish to see the results immediately due to a huge amount of money which is being invested”, said Armitage.

The official of the World Bank noticed that the terrain on that part of the Corridor 10 is very difficult, and that therefore capacious preparation works had to be performed.

Armitage pointed out that it was very important for Serbia to have the road built on the Corridor 10, because it would lead to cheaper transportation which would influence better competitiveness of the domestic economy, and that would provide cheaper export and import. Citizens of Serbia will also get an opportunity to travel faster and safer, since the number of traffic accidents will also decrease, said Armitage.

The World Bank finances works on the Corridor 10 construction with a total of 272.2 million Euros.
